As a military wife, I learned early on to expect nothing and work for everything. Some of my sweetest memories are of collecting aluminum cans with my parents on Saturday mornings or, later, giving new life to discarded base housing furniture and selling it at a local shop. That spirit of resourcefulness and resilience has been woven through our family — passed down to our children, who grew up wandering the canyons of San Diego searching for cans or helping their dad breathe new life into old treasures.
When we moved to San Diego, life took a turn we never could have imagined. I became pregnant with triplets just before my husband deployed. At 23 weeks gestation, I went into preterm labor. The NICU team fought with everything they had, but on October 30, 2010, our three babies’ tiny hearts gave out. That day changed everything. From the pain and the love that never fades, Salvage Sisters was born.
Salvage Sisters is more than a store — it’s a testament to finding light in broken places. It’s the story of a mother, a wife, and a woman who turned grief into grace and purpose. It’s about giving back, helping others, and finding beauty in what’s been left behind.
Our family still hunts together — through attics, barns, and forgotten homes on the brink of demolition — saving pieces of history and giving them another chance to be loved. We do it freely, simply to preserve memories and help others let go knowing their items will live on.
And if you visit the store, you’ll likely find me there — or maybe my twin sister. We look so much alike you might have to take a second look before you know which one of us you’re talking to.
